The EPA has been assigned by FEMA to survey, remove, and dispose of hazardous materials from properties burned by Los Angeles wildfires as Phase 1 of the federal cleanup response, at no cost to residents. The EPA will remove items such as paint, cleaners, batteries, pesticides, lithium-ion batteries, and visible asbestos, with authority to access properties without owner permission as of January 15, 2025.
